“I love my job!  I feel extremely fortunate to be able to help protect Canada’s wild plant and animal species.”

Meet Mark McIntyre! Since 1993, Mark has been working for Environment and Climate Change Canada, first as a National Park Warden, and presently as a Wildlife Enforcement Officer based in Burlington, Ontario. Mark’s career reveals two constant themes: law enforcement and protecting Canada’s wild species and natural spaces.

Today, he conducts inspections, launches investigations and prosecutes offenders under Canadian wildlife legislation. Being accountable motivates Mark to work hard, plus his job always demands that he go the extra mile. On any given day he could be examining an importation of venomous reptiles, digging by hand through a sand berm where Bank swallow nests, birds and eggs are suspected to have been destroyed, or caring for a shipment of nearly 5,000 hungry medicinal leeches. Mark feels fortunate to be part of the wildlife enforcement family at ECCC, and is grateful for the opportunity to protect Canada’s natural treasures.
