Dr. Osée Kamga: Policy Analyst

Dr. Osée Kamga is a Policy Analyst at the Wildlife Assessment and Information Directorate at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). He joined ECCC in the fall of 2020, which was actually his debut into the federal public service. Since then, Osée has worked alongside managers and team members who are both passionate and dedicated to the environment.

To date, Osée has had the opportunity to work on a variety of issues, and contributed his expertise towards the development of the Canadian Wildlife Service’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, and the Regional Assessments under the Cumulative Effects initiative. Presently, Osée is helping to develop the Canadian Wildlife Service’s Biodiversity Offsetting Policy, which will provide governments and the private sector with a guiding framework to compensate for biodiversity loss caused by residual effects of project development.

  • What was your first job? Literary critic for the Montreal-based newspaper Ici Montréal.
  • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be? Papua New Guinea.
  • What is your favourite game or sport to watch and play? Soccer.
  • Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? A car.
  • If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Cameroonian-style braised fish.
  • What are your hobbies? Writing fiction, playing Rubik’s cube and soccer, as well as watching movies.
  • How many pairs of shoes do you own? Less than my wife.
  • If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? The power of Ubiquity.
  • What's your favourite movie? In the Heat of the Night with Rod Steiger and Sydney Poitier.
  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Retired.
