COVID-19: Communications and language of work

March 30, 2020

This message is a reminder that even in exceptional circumstances like the current situation related to COVID-19, the Official Languages Act and the Directive on Official Languages for People Management must continue to be respected.

We recognize and appreciate the incredible efforts being put in place to communicate with our ECCC employees in this uncertain time. We want to remind you that all important messages impacting the health and safety of ECCC employees across Canada as well as instructions and guidance must be communicated in both official languages, regardless of the region.

Delegated managers and supervisors must take concrete measures to create and maintain an inclusive work environment conducive to the use of both official languages. This includes ensuring that all communications and work documents are available to employees in both official languages, and that the quality of the English and French versions is equivalent.

Should you have any questions about official languages, we encourage you to consult the Official Languages page or to contact the Corporate Official Languages Solutions Team.

We are working through this together with the best interest of our employees at heart. Thank you for your cooperation and continued efforts.
