Report 2: Departmental Progress in Implementing Sustainable Development Strategies – Safe and Healthy Communities (review level engagement)
The objective of the review was to determine whether the departments and agencies have contributed to meeting the goal of safe and healthy communities in the 2016-2019 Federal Sustainable Development Strategy.
The review concluded that the departments and agencies contributed to meeting the goal; however, they did not report any actions of their own to implement two of the 10 federal strategy contributing actions. In addition, departments and agencies did not completely and often did not clearly report on how they supported the federal goal and related targets and contributing actions.
The report contained two recommendations: one was directed at all entities in the scope of the review, and one was directed only at Environmental and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). The entities agreed with the recommendations. ECCC prepared a management action plan to address them.
The report was tabled in Parliament on October 27, 2020.
The report and ECCC’s response can be viewed on the Office of the Auditor General of Canada’s website Report 2—Departmental Progress in Implementing Sustainable Development Strategies—Safe and Healthy Communities
