Government of Canada continues investments in electric vehicle infrastructure and education

On July 30, 2026, the Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, announced $10.9 million for 22 electric vehicle charging infrastructure and education projects across Canada.

Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program

These projects support the installation of electric vehicle chargers across Canada.

Recipient: Hydro-Québec

Description: The proponent will install 100 Level 3 electric vehicle chargers. The project aims to address the growing demand for fast charging through the densification of the Electric Circuit network. It provides for the addition of fast chargers at existing or adjacent sites to increase capacity, reduce wait times, and improve access to public charging during peak periods.

Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative

These projects address key barriers to mass adoption of electric vehicles by creating confidence and awareness among Canadians related to electric vehicle charging, charging infrastructure, and the operation and ownership of electric vehicles.

Description: This national project will strengthen electric vehicle transition readiness for local governments/counties by developing and disseminating practical guidance on electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The project will consolidate existing research, recognized standards, and operational expertise into a bilingual suite of educational resources designed specifically for Canadian communities. Project deliverables will include a national charging station fire guidance toolkit with planning and policy guidance, emergency preparedness resources, builder and developer guidance, public education materials, communications resources, a bilingual rapid response learning program to facilitate interactive discussions, and a permanent online resource centre.
