Calculator for greenhouse gases and common air contaminants
What is the GHG and CAC calculator?
Environment Canada (EC) created the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions and Criteria Air Contaminants (CAC) Calculator to help environmental groups and other users estimate GHG and CAC emission reductions from different environmentally sound actions undertaken during the lifespan of their projects. The tool is targeting recipients of EC funding programs to help them report on their environmental actions based on the national emission factors average.
How does it work?
The calculator helps users calculate the potential greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and criteria air contaminants (CAC) reductions for each activity undertaken. The calculator then automatically sums the total GHG emissions and CAC reductions that will result from implementing all the selected activities.
The results of calculations from the GHG Emissions and CAC Calculator are not intended for, and nor should they be used in quantifying emission reductions for Canada’s GHG Inventory. The results serve only as a common basis for EC funded projects. If you require assistance with quantifying or constructing models for the estimation of emissions for greenhouse gas inventory purposes, please go to Monitoring, Accounting and Reporting on Greenhouse Gases.
The calculations cannot be used to calculate emission reductions for any other purpose than EC funded project activities.
How to access the calculator
The calculator can be accessed by opening the Excel file below. Within the Excel file you will also find a User Guide which will help you understand the calculator. You may also wish to contact your project manager or project officer for additional information.
