International comparison of air pollutant emissions indicators: data sources and methods, chapter 1

Introduction

The International comparison of air pollutant emissions indicators are part of the Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program, which provides data and information to track Canada's performance on key environmental sustainability issues.

Air pollution problems such as smog and acid rain result from the release of pollutants into the atmosphere. Canada's emissions of 5 key air pollutants are compared with those of the top emitting member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
