The quantity notified reflects the maximum quantity of waste that will be shipped, and is not necessarily the same as the actual quantity shipped. Exporters and importers routinely overestimate waste quantities on their notices, given that they must project the quantity and the physical and chemical nature of hazardous wastes and hazardous recyclable materials that will be shipped over a period of one year. Actual movements are tracked through a database containing information submitted on movement documents.
