Anthracite Coal Combustion (stoker fired boilers)

The burning of anthracite coal in stoker fired boilers results in releases of Metals (Part 1 Substances), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (Part 2 Substances) and Criteria Air Contaminants (Part 4 substances).

Suggested estimation methodology for Part 1, 2, 3 Releases: Emissions Factor

The general equation for emissions estimation is:

E = A x EF

  • E = emissions
  • A = activity rate
  • EF = emission factor

Input Data

A = Anthracite Coal Burned [tonnes per year]
B = Ash Content of Coal [percent]
C = Sulphur Content of Coal [percent]

Note on Emissions Factors

The default emission factors are used in the table above, however if you have a site specific emission factor you would prefer to use you may enter it in the emission factor column. If you choose to insert your own emission factor ensure that the units have been converted accordingly.

The emission factors used in this spreadsheet are based on uncontrolled emissions. If you are using an emission control device you will have to adjust the emissions calculated by this spreadsheet according to the following formula:

Controlled Emissions = Uncontrolled emission x ((100 - control efficiency)/100)
