## Crushed Stone Processing

Crushed stone processing results in release of Criteria Air Contaminants (Part 4 Substances).

### Suggested estimation methodology: Emissions Factor

The equation for emissions estimation is:

E = (A x EF)/1000

where:

• E = emissions
• A = activity rate
• EF = emissions factor

Then the total emissions for each of Total Particulate Matter (TPM), Particulate Matter Less than or Equal to 10 micrometers (µm) (PM10) and Particulate Matter Less than or Equal to 2.5 µm (PM2.5) is calculated by summing all individual emissions calculation for each substance.

#### Input Data

A = Throughput processed (tonnes/year)

The amount of throughput is measured either in material processed or raw material processed. The tables below show which type of throughput is used for the calculation based on the process used to crush the stone and whether it is controlled or not.

Note: "Uncontrolled" refers to processing of material with a moisture content below 1.5%. Use Uncontrolled Process Throughput when the moisture content of the process material is <1.5 %.

Note: "Controlled" refers to the processing of material, either naturally wet with a moisture content above 1.5% or moistened to 1.5% and above with wet suppression techniques. Use Controlled Process Throughput when the moisture content of the process material is ≥ 1.5 %.

### Note on Emissions Factors

The default emission factors are used in the table above, however if you have a site specific emission factor you would prefer to use you may enter it in the emission factor column. If you choose to insert your own emission factor ensure that the units have been converted accordingly.

The emission factors used in this spreadsheet are based on uncontrolled emissions. If you are using an emission control device you will have to adjust the emissions calculated by this spreadsheet according to the following formula:
