## Electric arc welding

The substances of concern for electric arc welding are Metals (Part 1 substances) and Criteria Air Contaminants (Part 4 substances).

### Suggested estimation methodology: Emissions factor

The equation for emissions estimation is:

E = (A x EF)/1,000,000

where:

• E = emissions [tonnes]
• A = annual electrode usage [kilograms (kg)]
• EF = emissions factor [grams (g)/kg of electrode consumed]

Then the total emissions for each substance are calculated by summing all individual emissions calculation for each substance.

#### Input

Record the annual electrode usage for each electrode type used based on the last 2 digits of Source Classification Code (SCC).  Then multiply it by the appropriate emissions factor for each substance found in the tables for Part 1 releases and Part 4 releases.

The default emission factors are used in the table above, however if you have a site specific emission factor you would prefer to use you may enter it in the emission factor column.  If you choose to insert your own emission factor ensure that the units have been converted accordingly.

The emission factors used in this spreadsheet are based on uncontrolled emissions.  If you are using an emission control device you will have to adjust the emissions calculated by this spreadsheet according to the following formula:
