Government of Canada Investment Supports Tourism Development and Growth in Northern Ontario

July 18, 2016 – Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor
Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced an investment of $375,000 over a three-year period to develop and grow the tourism industry in Northern Ontario and enhance its competitiveness.
The FedNor contribution will enable Tourism Northern Ontario to develop and implement a set of tools and training solutions that will help tourism businesses respond to changes in the marketplace, meet and exceed visitor expectations, and develop innovative experiences designed to result in increased business and revenue.

- The funding announced today is provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation.
- Tourism Excellence North is a tourism product development program, based in part on a successful, similar program led by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
