Government of Canada Announces Infrastructure Investment to Support Social and Economic Development and Growth in Markstay-Warren

September 12, 2016 – Markstay, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor

Marc Serré, Member of Parliament for Nickel Belt, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced an infrastructure investment of $100,000 in the Town of Markstay–Warren to help the community transform the Caisse Populaire Outdoor Rink into a year-round facility.

The FedNor funding, provided through the federal government's Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, will enable the Town of Markstay–Warren to add a roof to its existing outdoor rink. Identified as a local priority, this strategic initiative will improve the community's ability to maintain the rink's ice surface in the winter months and create new opportunities for a skate park and summer programs, as well as family events and other outdoor activities such as ball hockey and basketball.
