FedNor Invests More Than $735,000 to Support Jobs, Growth and a Strong Economy for the City of Greater Sudbury

December 20, 2016 – Sudbury, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario – FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $737,900 to support infrastructure, technology and innovation, as well as Francophone arts and culture in Sudbury and surrounding areas. This FedNor investment will support three strategic initiatives that will be led by local organizations, including Science North, La Place des Arts and the City of Greater Sudbury.

Paul Lefebvre, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, made the announcement today in Sudbury at Science North's IMAX Theatre.

Today's investments are provided through three of FedNor's key programs:

  • FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
  • The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is part of the Government of Canada's coordinated approach to mark the anniversary of Confederation. The program is designed to leave a lasting legacy in communities across the country by supporting improvements to community infrastructure that provide community and cultural benefits for the public.
  • FedNor's Economic Development Initiative helps foster the development of new expertise in innovation, economic diversification and business growth in Northern Ontario's Official Language Minority Communities, helping them to capitalize on economic opportunities made possible through linguistic duality.
