News Release

June 26, 2017 – Garden River, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

The Government of Canada is investing $100,000 to enable the Garden River First Nation to assist with the rehabilitation of Ojibway Park and Laughing Water Beach, located on the shores of Lake George. Originally set aside to allow Garden River First Nation members to gather traditional medicines during the early 1950s, the site was opened to the general public in 1962, and today it offers a pristine and calming cultural experience to residents and visitors alike.

Terry Sheehan, Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced this Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) investment. Specifically, the FedNor funding will enable the community to rehabilitate the existing shower house and pavilion, and expand the boardwalk to improve accessibility and connect to neighbouring nature trails.
