FedNor investment helps North Bay firm develop healthcare solutions to improve patient care around the world

June 22, 2018 – North Bay, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

To accelerate growth, create middle-class jobs and help spur innovation, the Government of Canada is providing a repayable contribution of $216,487 to MetricAid Inc. This strategic investment will enable the organization to develop software solutions to help streamline patient care, expand the company’s reach into international markets, and increase sales.

The funding was announced today by Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor. As a result of this investment, MetricAid expects to create up to six new full-time,
highly-skilled jobs in Northern Ontario.

Specifically, North Bay-based MetricAid will use the FedNor funding to create and market an innovative, safe and secure software product that will help address scheduling challenges facing healthcare providers in the United Kingdom. This initiative represents the first step in an ambitious international expansion for MetricAid and its suite of products.

  • The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

  • The Prosperity and Growth Strategy for Northern Ontario outlines the Government of Canada’s approach to ensure the region can fully benefit from the national Innovation and Skills Plan. It is focused on three key economic development areas: supporting innovation; growing companies; and building stronger communities.

  • Budget 2018 provided an additional $511 million over five years to the regional development agencies to support the national Innovation and Skills Plan. As part of this total, FedNor is being allocated $28 million over five years. This is in addition to the $25 million over five years it received in Budget 2017.

  • Located in North Bay, Ontario, MetricAid is a healthcare information technology company, patient flow consultant and physician scheduling service that seeks to improve the overall efficiency of emergency departments, urgent care centres as well as other physician and health provider groups.
