Lieutenant-General (Retired) Andrew Leslie, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Canada-U.S. Relations), announced today that he will travel to Belgrade, Serbia, to attend the presidential inauguration of Aleksandar Vučić on June 23.

Canada is encouraged by the democratic and economic transformation of Serbia and its commitment to achieving greater integration and cooperation with the European Union and its institutions. Canada is supportive of Serbia’s EU aspirations and progress toward reform, as well as continued cooperation between Serbia and NATO.”

• In 2012, Canada and Serbia signed a double taxation agreement, followed by a social security agreement in 2013.

• In 2013, Serbia ratified a strategic economic cooperation arrangement with the Canadian Commercial Corporation to support projects currently valued at up to $1.2 billion. 

• In May 2015, a foreign investment promotion and protection agreement between Canada and Serbia came into force. 

• Canada-Serbia trade has increased significantly over the past 10 years. In 2016, Canadian merchandise exports to Serbia totalled $14.5 million, and imports totalled $64 million.
