Minister Joly to welcome Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will welcome Anniken Huitfeldt, Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Ottawa, Ontario, from March 9 to 10, 2023.

During the visit, the ministers will discuss ways to advance bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including strengthening transatlantic ties, maintaining solidarity and support for Ukraine and reinforcing cooperation on Arctic issues.

The ministers will participate in an armchair discussion hosted by the Global Centre for Pluralism to talk about opportunities for advancing peace and multilateralism. They will also meet with the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs, and Canadian Permanent Participants, the groups representing Arctic Indigenous Peoples in the Arctic Council, about how to promote the priorities of Indigenous peoples in the Arctic.

This visit will build on Canada and Norway’s long history of engagement on global issues and will reinforce our robust bilateral relationship based on shared values, including respect for democracy, human rights and the rules-based international order.
