Canada provides additional funding for humanitarian assistance in Gaza Strip and neighbouring areas

October 21, 2023 – Cairo, Egypt – Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, announced that Canada is providing $50 million in funding for humanitarian assistance to address acute needs of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and neighbouring areas, while ensuring that none of the money goes into the hands of Hamas. This funding will help provide food, water, emergency medical assistance, protection services and other life-saving assistance.

Canada remains steadfast in its call for compliance with international humanitarian law. The safety and well-being of civilians must be a top priority. Canada continues to urge all parties to actively facilitate the rapid, sustained and unimpeded access of essential humanitarian relief to civilians in need, underscoring our collective responsibility to uphold the principles of humanity, dignity and protection for all.

  • Today’s announcement adds a further $50 million to the initial $10 million in humanitarian assistance funding announced last week.
