Minister Joly to travel to Italy to attend G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Anagni and Fiuggi, Italy, from November 25 to 26, 2024, to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.

Minister Joly will join her G7 counterparts to discuss critical global issues, including the ongoing Middle East conflict, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, and the situation in Lebanon. Discussions will also cover the stability of the Indo-Pacific, cooperation with Africa and urgent situations in Sudan, Haiti and Venezuela.

Minister Joly will meet with Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and other G7 counterparts and guests to discuss shared priorities such as promoting the rules-based international order, advancing gender equality and protecting human rights worldwide.

  • The G7 is an informal group of like-minded partners that includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union.

  • The G7 serves as a forum for frank and open discussions between leaders, ministers and policy-makers. As a member of the G7, Canada plays a leading role on the international stage and is able to advance both domestic and international priorities.

  • Italy currently holds the G7 presidency, and Canada will serve as G7 president for 2025. The G7 Leaders’ summit will be held in June 2025 in Kananaskis, Alberta. 

  • The G7 presidency rotates annually among member countries in the following order: France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy and Canada. The European Union is not part of the rotation.
