Minister Sidhu speaks with Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry

Yesterday, in advance of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Norway, the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, spoke with Cecilie Myrseth, Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry.

Minister Sidhu highlighted Norway’s role as a reliable and trusted partner. Norway is Canada’s largest export market in the Nordic region, with two-way merchandise trade reaching a value of more than $3.8 billion in 2025. Minister Sidhu reiterated Canada’s interest in expanding two‑way trade and investment with Norway, particularly in areas of shared interest, including energy, critical minerals, space and artificial intelligence. The ministers also discussed opportunities to further leverage the Canada–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement to support businesses in both countries.

Minister Sidhu underscored Canada’s commitment to continued collaboration with Norway to strengthen economic security, ensuring both economies remain competitive, resilient and well positioned to address emerging global challenges.
