Minister LeBlanc updates provincial and territorial ministers responsible for International Trade on CUSMA Joint Review

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King's Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy and the Honourable Janice Charette, Canada's Chief Trade Negotiator to the United States, met with provincial and territorial ministers responsible for International Trade to discuss Canada-U.S. trade relations. Minister LeBlanc provided an update on the Joint Review of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), following the trilateral meeting of the CUSMA Free Trade Commission held on July 1.

Minister LeBlanc briefed ministers on the outcomes of his meeting with United States Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer and Mexico's Secretary of Economy Marcelo Ebrard. He emphasized that CUSMA remains fully in force until 2036 and continues to provide Canadian businesses with important access to North American markets, while underscoring Canada's commitment to its renewal.

Minister LeBlanc reinforced Canada’s strong position as stable, reliable and trusted trading partner. He highlighted how Canada’s energy and natural resources, world-class workforce, and predictable business environment are attracting the highest investment in decades.  

Minister LeBlanc reiterated that Canada will continue engaging constructively with the United States and Mexico while firmly defending Canadian interests, including through discussions with the United States on sectoral tariffs affecting Canadian steel, aluminum, automobiles and softwood lumber.

Minister LeBlanc underlined Canada’s continued commitment to working closely with provinces and territories in keeping with a Team Canada approach.
