Francesco Sorbara
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs
Represents the riding of Vaughan—Woodbridge
Francesco Sorbara was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Vaughan—Woodbridge in 2015.
Mr. Sorbara previously served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue, is the President of the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association, and serves as Vice-Chair of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group. He has also served on several other parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on Finance, the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, the Standing Committee on Natural Resources, the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, and the Special Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The child of immigrants and a first-generation Canadian, Mr. Sorbara was raised on the core values of hard work, the importance of family, and giving back to the community. These beliefs have driven his passion for community service to help improve the lives of those around him. His volunteer work includes organizations such as the United Way, Eva’s Initiatives, and the Inner-City Scholarship Fund, as well as his involvement with the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association, the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario, and the Chartered Financial Analysts Society Toronto.
Before entering politics, Mr. Sorbara worked in the global financial sector. He has held positions in both Canada and the United States at JP Morgan Chase, Morningstar DBRS, and the Bank of Nova Scotia. In these roles, he had the opportunity to grow his expertise in financial matters concerning a broad range of industries and sectors, including automotive media and telecommunications, retail, real estate, energy, infrastructure, and financial services.
Mr. Sorbara holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Economics with a minor in Finance from Simon Fraser University as well as a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Toronto. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is married and the proud father of three daughters – Eliana, Natalia, and Leia.
