Learn about proper use of masks
This page is intended for TBS employees only.
Mandatory training
Employees must take mandatory training on TBS’s health and safety measures. Mandatory training includes learning about masks.
Masks are an important public health measure that can help prevent the transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19; they protect others and can also help protect the wearer.
How well a mask works depends on the materials used, how the mask is made, and how well it fits. For more information on the type, quality and fit of masks, please refer to materials, construction and fit.
Employees must also read the following:
- COVID-19 mask use: Types of masks and respirators
- Public Service Occupational Health Program COVID-19 Guidance
Wearing a mask alone will not prevent the spread of COVID-19. You must also follow TBS health and safety measures and personal preventive practices:
- wash your hands often
- practise physical distancing of at least 2 metres
- self-assess for symptoms associated with COVID-19 and stay home when sick
Employees should consult the Government of Canada’s authoritative information on COVID-19 at the following web pages:
- Coronavirus disease (COVID-19): Outbreak update
- Information for Government of Canada employees: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)
Questions about the proper use of medical masks and respirators at TBS worksites can be directed to Services - TBS-SCT Occ. Health and Safety/Santé et sécurité au travail.
