Common hybrid work in the federal public service – Message to Employees
On September 9, the federal public service will implement the updated common hybrid work model. Our approach to hybrid work, which was endorsed by deputy ministers from across the public service, is driven by purpose and grounded in our values and ethics.
Working together onsite strengthens collaboration within and across teams and increases opportunities for learning and sharing. Maximizing these benefits while continuing to provide flexibility for employees supports excellence in the public service and allows us to continue delivering services to Canadians and strengthen their confidence in the public service.
Over the summer, departments have been working closely with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) and Shared Services Canada (SSC) to prepare for the updated hybrid model. While most organizations are ready to welcome all of their employees to the office at least three days per week, and executives four days per week, we know there will continue to be issues to address.
As issues arise, we are committed to working quickly to respond to them. We also know that some departments will need additional time to ensure their workplaces are ready, such as buildings that are currently under renovation. All organizations will be actively seeking employee feedback so that the transition to additional onsite work is marked by open exchanges and ongoing improvement.
As we move forward, the obligation and commitment to meet the accommodation needs of employees remains unchanged. Working with Labour Management Consultative Committees, organizations will continue to provide a barrier-free work environment that is safe, inclusive and welcoming. And it is important to remember that many employees have continued to work on-site five days a week.
The public service is an amazing, dynamic place to work with a responsibility and calling like no other. We are very proud of the exceptional work that you perform, and as we evolve and adapt to meet new challenges and opportunities, we have full confidence in your capacity and commitment to continue providing Canadians with the services and support they expect and deserve.
