Regulatory Initiative: Regulations Enabling the Legal Sale of Cannabis Edibles and Concentrates - Forward Regulatory Plan 2018-2020

Title or working title of the regulatory initiative

Regulations Enabling the Legal Sale of Cannabis Edibles and Concentrates

Description of the objective

The Cannabis Act received Royal Assent on June 21, 2018, and will come into force on October 17, 2018. As set out in the Cannabis Act, the legal sale of edibles containing cannabis and cannabis concentrates will be permitted by no later than one year following the coming into force of the Act.

Regulations are required to enable the production and sale of these classes of cannabis, as well as to address the unique public health and safety risks associated with cannabis edibles and concentrates (for example, the risk of cannabis edibles accidentally being ingested by children). Health Canada is working diligently to develop these regulations, and intends to consult with Canadians in 2018.
