Description
The purpose of the proposed amendments is to reduce barriers to cannabis research and testing activities and to facilitate cannabis research for non-therapeutic purposes.
Specifically, the proposed regulatory amendments would exempt cannabis manufactured and sold for the purpose of cannabis research on humans for non-therapeutic purposes from the application of Division 5 of Part C of the Food and Drug Regulations; authorize additional research-related activities for certain licence holders (i.e., to produce, distribute, and sell reference standards and test kits); and expand the qualifications for Head of Laboratory.

Consultations
A Notice of Intent was published in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on December 12, 2020, and comments were accepted until January 11, 2021.
Canadians will also have the opportunity to provide comments on the regulatory proposal during the Canada Gazette, Part I, public comment period, which is expected to take place in fall 2021.
