Welcome

Meeting with research stakeholders
- The Secretariat gave an overview of recent meetings with leadership from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Chronic Pain Centre of Excellence for Canadian Veterans.
- These meetings involved discussion of Task Force findings to date, research needs that might inform Task Force deliberation on future recommendations, and potential additional meetings.
Planning for Phase III report knowledge mobilization
- The Secretariat provided a brief overview of initial knowledge mobilization planning related to the Phase III report and other Task Force work to date. Members also discussed remaining activities to close out the Task Force mandate.
- The Task Force reflected on how individual members could support report dissemination work through their networks, including outreach activities and engagement, social media, traditional media, and other tools. Key points of discussion also included:
- The need to establish an ongoing dialogue between the Task Force, Secretariat, and stakeholders to ensure sharing of feedback on actions to support the implementation of the Task Force recommendations.
- Given implementation of similar action plans typically involved many key players (e.g., researchers, different levels of government, community organizations, clinicians), the Task Force discussed how best to engage with the broad pain ecosystem to enable future work. They also suggested building a partnership map with all players who would need to be involved.
- The importance of leveraging well-organized structures in other health-related domains (e.g., arthritis, cancer, diabetes) to help move forward.
- The potential for building a strong pain coalition across Canada by leveraging momentum underway within various jurisdictions.
- The Secretariat committed to reviewing the draft Phase III report to see how to strengthen recommendations to better capture these ideas.
Next steps and follow-up items
- The Secretariat will revise materials to support the upcoming meeting of the Task Force and External Advisory Panel.
- The Secretariat will distribute the next iteration of the Phase III draft report for Task Force and External Advisory Panel feedback and in preparation for the joint meeting on March 10, 2021.
