Response to comments received on PMRL consultation for Bromoxynil (PMRL2021-29)
The proposed maximum residue limit (MRL) English document for bromoxynil (PMRL2021-29) was published using the term 'annual canarygrass seeds', with a corresponding MRL of 0.05 ppm. This does not reflect the updated English term cited in the MRL database of 'annual canarygrass grain'.
Response from Health Canada
The English PMRL2021-29 document for bromoxynil proposed a 0.05 ppm maximum residue limit for annual canarygrass seeds. Health Canada's MRL database has recently been updated, and the English crop descriptor for 'annual canarygrass seeds' has been revised to 'annual canarygrass grain'. There is no change to the French crop descriptor.
This change is not likely to result in any trade impediments given that there are currently no Codex MRLs or American tolerances (our major trading partner) for either 'annual canarygrass seeds' or 'annual canarygrass grain' for bromoxynil.
The Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada has informed the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Committee of the World Trade Organization of this matter.
