Consultation on Flufenacet and Its Associated End-use Products, Proposed Re‑evaluation Decision PRVD2021-01

Notice to the reader

The online consultation is now closed.

Health Canada is consulting Canadians on the proposal to cancel the registration of flufenacet and all associated end-use products registered for sale and use in Canada as a re-evaluation of the pesticide showed the potential risk to human health was not acceptable.

Flufenacet is a herbicide currently registered for use on field corn and soybeans to control annual grasses and broadleaf weeds in Eastern Canada. Dietary risks were not shown to be acceptable when used according to current conditions of registration. Occupational risks to mixer/loaders and applicators were not shown to be acceptable when used according to current conditions of registration, or when additional mitigation measures were considered (such as higher levels of personal protective equipment and engineering controls).

Cancellation of flufenacet and its associated end-use products is expected to have minimal impact on Canadian growers since many effective alternative herbicides are available.

For a list of products containing flufenacet, please consult Appendix I in the PRVD or visit the Pesticide Label Search database. All products containing flufenacet registered in Canada are subject to this proposed re-evaluation decision.

For more information on the proposed decision open the "Proposed Re-evaluation Decision".
