Industry guidance related to the Corded Window Coverings Regulations: Testing corded window coverings
Testing a corded window covering
It is the responsibility of industry to ensure compliance of a corded window covering with the applicable Canadian legislation. Testing a corded window covering to the requirements of the Regulations is one way of verifying compliance with these requirements. It is strongly recommended that such testing is conducted before marketing a corded window covering in Canada.
When using the services of a private testing laboratory, industry members should verify that the laboratory has a quality system in place (often verified through third party accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025), is familiar with Canadian corded window covering safety requirements and test methods, and can test to these requirements.
Health Canada's Consumer and Hazardous Products Safety Directorate has developed a corded window covering test method, various guidance documents and videos that describe the assessment of products to the requirements of the Regulations.
See the Resources section for the list of documents available for industry and how to request them.
