Summary

The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and its regulations.

The purpose of this Compliance Verification (CV) project was to verify industry's compliance of corded window coverings with the requirements of the Corded Window Coverings Regulations.

For this project, compliance of select corded window coverings was determined through an evaluation process where Health Canada inspectors visited establishments online and in person and sampled relevant products. Compliance with the requirements listed under the Regulations was verified through testing at the Product Safety Laboratory.

Prior to initiating inspections, the CPSP carried out a market survey to determine the presence of establishments selling, importing, or manufacturing corded window coverings in Canada. Targets were then selected from that survey.

Over the course of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, mechanical testing of 44 different products was carried out, where 12 out of the 44 samples were imported products. The testing resulted in 1 alert, 30 recalls, 1 stop sale, 4 stop distributions and 7 trader commitments. There was 1 instance where no compliance issue was identified, therefore no corrective action was required.
