Summary
The Consumer Product Safety Program (CPSP) administers and enforces the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) and regulations made under it.
The purpose of this Cyclical Enforcement (CE) project was to verify compliance of five categories of consumer chemicals which are subject to the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001 (CCCR, 2001).
For this project, the compliance of selected consumer chemicals with the CCCR, 2001 was determined by a review of classification documents requested from establishments by Health Canada inspectors.
Prior to initiating this CE project, the CPSP carried out a market survey to quantify the presence of consumer chemical stakeholders in Canada. This effort resulted in a list from which targets were selected.
Over the course of the 2014/2015 fiscal year, seventeen inspections of fifty-one different products were carried out. The inspections resulted in six recalls, two stop sales, ten stop distributions as well as nine trader commitments to apply corrective labels on future shipments. Twenty-four inspected products did not require corrective action.
