Background
Pantoprazole for injection is a short-term treatment for conditions where a rapid reduction of gastric acid secretion is required. For example, it's used to treat patients in hospital who cannot tolerate oral medication who have reflux esophagitis or pathological hypersecretion associated with Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
In Canada, Pantoprazole for injection is marketed by Auro Pharma Inc, Fresenius Kabi Canada Ltd and Jamp Pharma Corporation. Auro is reporting a shortage of the drug, and Sandoz, a company who was previously in shortage, has discontinued their format of this drug.
We expect that shortages will last until April 2025.
You can find the most up-to-date information on these shortages on the Drug Shortages Canada website.
