NHP Discontinuation Request Form
NHP Product Licensing Bulletin No. 6, October 27, 2025
On this page:
At a glance:
- The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) has developed a Natural Health Product (NHP) Discontinuation Request Form to ensure that requests for discontinuations of authorized NHPs are processed in a consistent, efficient, and timely manner.
- The NHP Discontinuation Request Form replaces the process for “Discontinuing an NPN or DIN-HM” outlined in the Natural Health Products Management of Applications Policy (NHP MAP) (2019 version). An updated version of the NHP MAP will be published in Fall 2025 to reflect the updated process.
Purpose and scope:
The NHP Discontinuation Request Form provides a streamlined process for licence holders to request the discontinuation of product licences (with NPN or DIN-HM).
This bulletin outlines the process to request a discontinuation of an NHP that has received a NPN or DIN-HM. It only applies to NHPs.
Discontinuation guidance:
The NHP Discontinuation Request Form is located at the following link: NHP Discontinuation Request Form
Implementation:
Effective immediately, to submit a request to discontinue an authorized NHP, the NHP Discontinuation Request Form is now required.
Due to system limitations, the date on the NHP Discontinuation Request Form must match the date the form is being submitted. Post-dated forms will not be processed.
The request must be made by the Senior Official of the company to discontinue the NPN or DIN-HM. Alternatively, a designated party, for which a Designated Party Authorization Form (DPA) has been submitted to NNHPD, can request to discontinue the NPN or DIN-HM on behalf of the Senior Official. Discontinuation requests from undesignated company representatives will not be processed.
The form allows the licence holder to select multiple product licences for discontinuation. Licence holders can also request to have the form apply to all ‘active’ NPNs and/or DIN-HMs associated with the company without having to enter information for each product.
To request the discontinuation of a NPN or DIN-HM in response to a communication from the NNHPD Risk Management Division (RMD), select the “yes” option on the form for the question: “Is this in response to communication from the Risk Management Division?”.
After completing and submitting the form, licence holders will see a confirmation message that the form has been submitted. Once NNHPD processes the discontinuation(s), the licence holder will receive an automated email from nnhpd.admin-admin.dpsnso@hc-sc.gc.ca confirming that the discontinuation is complete. Please add the above noted email address to your trusted contact list to ensure you receive the automated email.
Updates to the licence status will be reflected in the Licensed Natural Health Products Database as “Discontinued”.
Product licence holders who requested the discontinuation of a NPN or DIN-HM prior to the publication of this bulletin do not need to complete the NHP Discontinuation Request Form.
