The Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB) places a high priority on a strong science foundation to support its role as a regulatory authority for health products and food. Currently, almost three-quarters of our workforce plays a direct or supporting role in Branch science activities. Towards a Strategic Science Plan proposes a framework for engaging and enhancing our many science activities over the next few years and builds on several Branch initiatives including the 2007-12 Strategic Plan and Blueprint for Renewal II.

Towards a Strategic Science Plan

  • outlines the Branch's strategic science agenda;
  • helps us to recognize and act on science opportunities;
  • serves as a basis for scientific engagement and partnership; and
  • communicates HPFB science priorities to a wider audience.

These initiatives provide a clear strategic approach for HPFB to carry forward its mission to help Canadians maintain and improve their health.

HPFB is reaching out to academics, patients, consumers, and the industrial science community in Canada to share our scientific knowledge, promote health and well-being, work together, and strengthen the capabilities and value of science nationwide. Through this plan, we are inviting Canadians to participate in the science that affects their daily lives.

The Health Products and Food Branch is interested in hearing your thoughts and ideas on Towards a Strategic Science Plan through an on-line consultation, which will run until October 2009. The consultation will solicit input from a variety of stakeholders, including patients, consumers, health professionals, academics and industry.

We encourage you to participate. Including a range of perspectives in the decision-making process will enhance the quality, credibility, and accountability of our science strategy.
