Authority of Health Canada's Research Ethics Board and Health Canada Officials
In accordance with Article 6.1 of the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS 2), Health Canada mandates the Research Ethics Board (REB) to approve, reject, propose modifications to, or recommend termination of any proposed or ongoing research involving humans which is conducted within, or by members of the institution, using the considerations set forth in the TCPS 2 as the minimum standard.
The members of Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada's REB are appointed by the Deputy Minister of Health and the President of PHAC, and the tenure of the membership will be for a period of three years. The Decisional Authority is responsible for the implementation of the REB's research ethics policy. The REB Secretariat, located in the Strategic Policy Branch, provides administrative support to the REB.
