Supervised consumption sites: status of applications

Below is a table of supervised consumption site applications received by Health Canada, indicating the status of each application.

If you want to operate a supervised consumption site for medical purposes in Canada, you must first obtain an exemption under section 56.1 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Find information about how to apply for a supervised consumption site.

Screening:
The applicant's submission has been received and is being examined to verify whether it contains sufficient information for Health Canada to review the application.
Review:
The application is thoroughly examined to determine whether the information is complete and clear. When the application is deemed complete, the applicant is notified that the application has been deemed complete. Health Canada will make a final decision after this stage.
Exempted:
Inspection pending: The application has met all Health Canada requirements (including local conditions, policies and procedures, and personnel), however a final inspection by Health Canada is to be done before site can offer services to the public. Inspection will occur after Health Canada is notified that site is ready to offer services to the public.
Exempted:
The application has met all Health Canada requirements (including local conditions, policies and procedures, and personnel), site was inspected, and an exemption has been granted.
Exempted and offering services:
The supervised consumption site holds a valid exemption from Health Canada and is presently open to the public.
Awaiting key information before decision can be taken:
Required information related to such aspects as: policies and procedures, personnel, local conditions, has not yet been submitted or requires clarification or additional information.
Decision:
The applicant has provided all required information and the application is considered complete. Health Canada can render a decision.
