Biography

Sheila Carey obtained a Master’s of Arts in Art History at the University of Toronto, with a specialization in ancient studies. Following graduation, she was an intern in the Vocabulary Program at the Getty Information Institute (now the Getty Research Institute), where she worked for two years. Sheila returned to Canada in 1998 to work at the Canadian Heritage Information Network, where she has worked in several capacities for over 20 years. Her research topics over the years have included projects on online and on-site museum visitors, the usability of online resources, assessing user needs through feedback mechanisms and understanding how audiences use online collections. Most recently, she has focused on developing resources to assist museum professionals in selecting collections management systems, data cleaning and mapping collections data to semantic models.
