International Mobility Program: Unique work situations – camp counselors in training
This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada staff. It is posted on the Department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.
Camp counselors in training do not require work permits.
They may pay a fee to attend camp as other campers; however, they are there, at least in part, to receive training during their stay with the intention of becoming a camp counselor the following year.
Camp counselors in training occasionally assist camp counselors in their duties. They do not have any of the responsibilities of a camp counselor and are under constant supervision by a camp counselor. They do not meet the definition of “work” in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
