Impact Assessment Act (the IAA)

Description

Under the IAA, a regulatory initiative will be developed to prescribe the costs that the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (the Agency) and review panels incur while administering the federal impact assessment process, for which the project proponent will be responsible.

Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)

The Agency will coordinate regulatory development with other federal departments to ensure consistency and transparency in cost recovery practices across the government.

Indigenous Cooperation Regulations

Impact Assessment Act (the IAA)

Description

Under the IAA, a regulatory initiative will be developed to enable the Minister to enter into agreements with Indigenous governing bodies to be considered jurisdictions under the Act and to exercise powers and duties relating to impact assessments carried out under the IAA.

Regulatory cooperation efforts (domestic and international)

The Agency will consult with other jurisdictions to ensure regulations enable opportunities for coordination with other assessment regimes.

Designated Classes of Projects Order (Amendments)

Impact Assessment Act (the IAA)

Description

This Ministerial Order was developed under the IAA and came into force on August 30, 2019. It set out classes of projects that, in the Minister’s opinion, will cause only insignificant adverse environmental effects, and are exempt from requirements under the IAA relating to projects on federal lands and outside of Canada. Amendments to this order are planned to designate additional classes of projects that will cause only insignificant adverse environmental effects.

The amendments to the Ministerial Order will be developed in collaboration with federal authorities and other bodies.
