Transcript: Awards of Excellence in Nursing 2019 - Barathi Vengadasamy
Barathi Vengadasamy had worked all over the world before beginning her nursing career in Canada in 2005. It wasn't until she started to work with Indigenous Peoples in northern Ontario that she realized being a community health nurse was her true passion.
Barathi has previously worked in First Nations communities in Sioux Lookout Zone, and currently serves the community of Poplar Hill in northwestern Ontario as a nurse-in-charge. The highlight of her nursing career has been her growing connection to the community that has allowed her to become more sensitive to individual needs while also providing nursing services based on the community's perspectives.
Awards of Excellence in Nursing 2019 - Jenifer Bujold
Transcript: Awards of Excellence in Nursing 2019 - Jenifer Bujold
Jenifer Bujold had always dreamed of working in a remote northern community. After 16 years of hospital nursing, Jenifer was offered a position as a flight nurse, providing emergency transport from remote communities in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut. Since then, she has worked in Baker Lake, Nunavut, where she created a pilot project to reduce stress on the community health nurses working extended on-call hours in the north.
Recently, Jenifer moved back to Cambridge Bay, the community where she started her northern career. She has transitioned into the role of Clinical Nurse Educator, where she looks forward to the opportunity to spark the same excitement and passion about northern nursing within those joining the Nunavut nursing workforce.
