Computer and Internet Access

This program supports enhanced access to computers and the Internet in communities across the country. Through the Connecting Canadians program, it funds the extension and enhancement of broadband infrastructure to reach previously underserved communities, bringing new opportunities for entrepreneurship as well as access to new services. It is also responsible for maintaining current maps of broadband coverage across Canada and for working with other government partners to leverage support for broadband infrastructure. The Computers for Schools program refurbishes surplus computer equipment donated by the public and private sectors, which is distributed to schools, libraries, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous communities, ensuring access to digital tools needed for the skills of tomorrow. It also provides youth internship opportunities whereby young Canadians can gain valuable experience in the field of information and communications technologies. This program includes:
