Minister Bibeau highlights an investment of $11.5 million in more than 16 University of Sherbrooke research projects

Health researchers and laboratories are at the forefront of scientific breakthroughs that lead to new treatments and knowledge that form the cornerstone of health improvements for Canadians. The Government of Canada is proud to support this important scientific research.
Today, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development and Member of Parliament for Compton–Stanstead, on behalf of the Minister of Health, highlighted an investment of $11.5 million to support 16 health research projects at the University of Sherbrooke. This investment in health research supports our economy and creates high quality middle class jobs.
The Minister spoke about this important investment while touring the lab of diabetes researcher Dr. André Carpentier. Dr. Carpentier received a $1 million grant to study the role of brown fat in obesity and type 2 diabetes. His findings will help guide efforts to prevent and treat diabetes, which is affecting a growing number of Canadians.
