Backgrounder: Canada invests in climate competitive jobs for young people

On April 7, 2026, the Honourable Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, and the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, announced $30 million to create 900 employment and skills training opportunities over two years for youth across the country in the natural resource sectors, including energy, forestry, mining, earth sciences and clean technology.
Science and Technology Internship Program – Green Jobs
Funding will be delivered through the Science and Technology Internship Program – Green Jobs. Ten organizations have received funding to create jobs and training opportunities for youth in the natural resource sectors in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and other related fields.
