HMCS Timmins

There has been only one vessel named HMCS Timmins in the Royal Canadian Navy.

HMCS Timmins (K223) / Flower-class corvette

Commissioned in Esquimalt, British Columbia, on 10 February 1942, HMCS Timmins served with Esquimalt Force until transferred to the east coast.

Upon arrival at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 13 October, she was assigned to Western Local Escort Force. With its division into escort groups in June 1943, she became a member of Escort Group W-6, transferring to W-2 in April 1944. She commenced a two-month refit at Liverpool, Nova Scotia in late June 1943, followed by work-ups at Pictou, Nova Scotia. A second refit at Liverpool was carried out from June to October 1944, which included the extension of her forecastle. Three weeks of work-ups in Bermuda followed.

HMCS Timmins was paid off on 15 July 1945 at Sorel, Quebec, and sold later that year for commercial use. She entered service in 1948 under the Honduran flag as Guayaquil and, ironically, foundered at Guayaquil, Ecuador on 3 August 1960.
