Minister Garneau expressed Canada’s concerns regarding the recent destabilizing Russian actions, including the movement of troops near Ukraine’s borders and in occupied Crimea. He also expressed condolences to Ukraine and the families of the 4 Ukrainian service members who were killed in the Donbas on March 26.
During the call, Minister Garneau expressed Canada’s serious concern over the continuing measures of the Maduro regime against democratic forces and civil society and reiterated Canada’s commitment to supporting a peaceful return to democracy in Venezuela.
Today, the Honourable Marc Garneau, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met virtually with Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State, to advance work on the Roadmap for a Renewed U.S.-Canada Partnership launched by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Joe Biden following their virtual meeting on February 23, 2021.
The ministers underscored the shared values and steadfast relationship between Canada and Ukraine. They reiterated the importance of ongoing cooperation in the International Coordination and Response Group for the victims of Flight PS752.
