Today, Chief Bartholomew J. Tsannie of Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation, the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State (Rural Development), and the Honourable Eric Schmalz, Minister Responsible for First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs announced a settlement agreement for a treaty land entitlement claim as part of the Saskatchewan Treaty Land Entitlement Framework Agreement.

On September 01, 2026, the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and Governments of Canada and the Northwest Territories will celebrate the tenth anniversary of the NWT’s first community-based self government, the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government, located in Délı̨nę, NWT. Representing 1300 members who live in the community and across Canada, the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government represents the self government and land claim agreement rights and authorities of Délı̨nę First Nation Citizens. In addition, it is responsible for representing and providing services to all residents of the community.

The Government of Canada, the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (Parties) are committed to a Nunavut Land Use Plan that provides clear, durable and comprehensive direction for land use across the territory. After careful review of the 2023 Recommended Nunavut Land Use Plan (Recommended Plan), the Parties have each arrived at the decision that there remains further work to do in cooperation with the Nunavut Planning Commission and the Recommended Plan cannot be accepted at this time, as currently drafted.
