Following a thorough safety and efficacy assessment, Health Canada has concluded that irradiation is a safe and effective treatment to reduce harmful bacteria in fresh and frozen raw ground beef. Health Canada is proceeding with amendments to the Food and Drug Regulations that will permit the sale of irradiated fresh and frozen raw ground beef. The new regulations will be posted in the Canada Gazette, Part II, on February 22, 2017.
