Today, the Government of Canada and the Heiltsuk Nation are announcing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) committing both organizations to work together to enhance the Nation’s role in marine environmental response within the Heiltsuk territory.
Sarnia, Ontario - The United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) Alder will be carrying out icebreaking operations at the Port of Thunder Bay, Ontario on or around March 16. The purpose of these operations is to break ice in the area so commercial vessels can access the port safely.

Québec City, Quebec – The Canadian Coast Guard announces that spring icebreaking operations on the St. Lawrence River between Montreal and Québec will begin on the morning of Monday, March 1. However, these activities could begin earlier, given the risk to the fast ice posed by the combination of mild temperatures and high tides expected on February 26, 27 and 28. Icebreaking will continue thereafter on several streams, rivers and river mouths in Quebec.
